Counseling Corner


The John Muir Middle School Counseling staff is dedicated to helping students meet their academic goals, enhance their social skills and mature emotionally during and beyond their middle school years. Our three counselors bring over 66 years of professional guidance experience to their jobs. They are available 8 AM to 3:30 PM during school days.

Counselor Veronica Rivera serves students who have last names beginning with A and ending with H, as well as all AVID students; her number is 618-4400 x3765.

Counselor Barbara Simons serves students who have last names beginning with I and ending with Mendez; her number is 618-4400 x3764.

Parenting Resources

Math and reading help for kids: An extensive site devoted to helping parents contribute positively to their child's homework experience. All ages and grade levels are covered.
National Association for Gifted Children: The NAGC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the needs and interests of gifted children and their parents.
KidsHealth:  This easy-to-navigate site offers pragmatic, sensible advice covering health, self-esteem and schooling issues for kids of all ages. Recommended!
