Algebra

Algebra: Fun with Calendars: "In this activity, a volunteer picks four days that form a square on the calendar, such as March 17, 18, 24 and 25. The volunteer computes the sum of the numbers of the four days (in this example, 84). A simple calculation then " magically " uncovers the four dates. But why does the trick work? This can be the start of an algebraic investigation that should be accessible to most pre-algebra and algebra students."

Fun and Sun Rent-a-Car Project: This resource is provided from Cynthia Lanius' Homepage through Rice University. Rent-a-Car is an activity designed to use a real-world situation to illustrate linear functions. Further, it connects algebra with real-world experiences. Students are allowed to work individually or in groups. The students must read a problem situation, make tables and graphs, analyze the graphs, and write functions and paragraphs. Students are exposed to graphs, tables, functions, and systems of linear equations. In addition , students must help the Green family decide which rent-a-car plan is best for their family vacation.

Math

The Math Forum: Ask Dr. Math: "Ask Dr. Math is a question-and-answer service for math students and their teachers. A searchable archive is available by level and topic, as well as summaries of Frequently Asked Questions (the Dr. Math FAQ)."
